The Foro Italico, which is located between Monte Mario and the Tiber (beyond which lies the magnificent Via Flaminia) is a huge sports complex that includes Roman Olympic Stadium (which hosts all home games of the football teams Roma and Lazio ), the Stadio dei Marmi, the Tennis and the Swimming Stadium.
A large number of major sport events in the world took place at the Foro Italico such as the 1960 Olympic Games, the World Cup in 1990, the Europeans in 1968 and 1980, the World Swimming Championships in the 1994 and 2009, the World Athletic Championships in 1987 and, since 1949, the International Tennis Championships of Italy.
From our accommodation near the sports complex of the Foro Italico in Rome you can reach areas of high beauty, such as Monte Mario, the most imposing hill of the eternal city. The area of Monte Mario is one of the most natural of Rome. Surrounded by greenery is characterized by the presence of huge parks, such as the Natural Reserve of Monte Mario (204 hectares) and the Urban Park Pineto (240 hectares). From the "Zodiaco" you can also admire the most beautiful view of the whole city.
To the east of the Foro Italico is the Flaminio district, which is located close to the Aurelian Walls and is home to many important cultural centers of the city like museums (including the very important MAXXI), theaters and especially the new Auditorium- Parco della Musica designed by Renzo Piano. Walking along Via Flaminia (which gives its name to the neighborhood) you get to Piazza del Popolo, and once you're there you can reach the splendid Villa Borghese (do not miss the experience of climbing on the Pincio) or head south and enter the heart of Ancient Rome, where you can enjoy indescribable places such as Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna, and monuments that represent the human civilization, such as the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain.
