area: Pigneto

Our neighborhood is called IL PIGNETO. The name originates from a linear pine forest planted by the Caballini nobles, who once owned the large estate. The urban structure is the result of building speculation in the 1960s, which transformed a suburb made up of shacks and rural buildings scattered among the remains of ancient aqueducts and the Villa dell'Imperatrice Elena (mother of Emperor Constantine). The new buildings, some as high as eight stories, were built next to old farmhouses, small trattorias, and cellars where bulk wine from Zagarolo and Frascati was sold. In this ultra-popular setting, Pier Paolo Pasolini, poet and director, found inspiration to live his life of passions and ideas for two of his three films made in Rome: “Accattone” (1961) and “Mamma Roma” (1962) and for his greatest literary masterpiece “Ragazzi di vita”. A museum network marks the locations where the most important scenes of these and other films were shot, such as Roberto Rossellini's “Roma Città Aperta” (1945) and Pietro Germi's “Il ferroviere” (1955). Today, Pigneto is considered an artists' neighborhood, but it is mainly home to film technicians, a few authors, and several musicians.

Points of interest

* Distances as the crow flies
Small room for tourist rental with private bathroom in our green house full of plants and books. We don't have a television and we're perfectly happy. The accommodation is unconventional but comfortable and charming. Clean, bright, with a view of the pedestrian area of Pigneto, where there are vegetable markets during the day and bars filled with young people in the evening: here you will find dozens of cocktail bars, restaurants, pizzerias, and a very good artisan ice cream shop. There is also a vendor selling sugared doughnuts and cream puffs.
The Colosseum is just 2 km away. You can reach the Vatican and the city center by METRO (Line C and Line A) or by BUS 81 or TRAM 19. To go to Trastevere, you can take TRAM 3 not far from the house. Termini Station can be reached by TRAM and BUS in 6 stops, but you can also walk there, as it is only about 2 km away.

More info
My name is Andrea and I work in cinema in various ways. I am mainly a screenwriter and storyboard artist. I work as a Creative Producer in my family's company, where I evaluate screenplays and literary works for possible adaptations for the screen. I love welcoming guests and helping them during their stay so that it is not superficial and they can save a lot of time that Rome can sometimes waste.
